Halo Diaries Season 2 Episode 1 is Here!
It’s been a year since we started the conversation around owning your natural crown on Halo Diaries, and season 2 is here! Janine Jellers, the author of the Big South African Hair Book, talks to our panel of queens about all things hair in this round table talk.
Our season 2 panel of queens are mogul Boity, Face of Halo Heritage Adera Kachienga, blogger Nonhlanhla Zondi, international hairstylist and makeup artist, Faith Seuoe, business owner, Zinha Sibiya and mamma bear, Modie Thulo.
In season 2, we discussed everyone’s first hair memories, hair fails and everything in between. You’ll relate to the story of how Faith Seuoe was left for hours in a salon to get her hair braided when she was a child, and how much she hated being pulled and plaited. How about Zinha’s granny who shaved her hair as a child because she didn’t have the patience for braiding it.
We’d bet that with those two tales alone, you’re nodding your head because you’ve probably been there too.
But we also talk about how great it is to own your natural hair as a black woman, Modie Thulo reminds us how versatile our hair is. It is empowering to be able to change your look so often and with such ease as a black woman, and we are here for it! It is so important for us as black women to develop a positive and healthy relationship with their hair and Momma Thulo gives us words of wisdom on how to fall in love with your locks again.
When last did you experiment with your hair? We were surprised by Faith’s revelation that she’s played it safe with her hair for years and is ready to break out of her hair comfort zone. And don’t get us started on how the men around us always seem to have the best hair, eyebrows and lashes.
South African women have cultural evolution and age-old traditions that surround our hair, we discuss this in this introduction to Halo Dairies S2, and we got pretty emotional about it as well.
Get yourself settled with a cup of coffee and prepare for a real talk with real women about real hair stories.
